Sheep Pox Vaccine Description
This vaccine contains a live attenuated goat pox virus strain (CVCC AV41), a well-established strain used for the control of capripoxvirus infections in small ruminants.
Goat pox and sheep pox are highly contagious viral diseases causing:
- Fever and systemic infection
- Skin lesions and scab formation
- Reduced growth, wool, and milk production
- Significant economic losses in intensive and pastoral systems
This vaccine provides:
- Rapid onset of immunity (4–5 days) – critical during outbreak situations
- Cross-protection between goat pox and sheep pox viruses
- Long-lasting immunity (12 months) with a single dose
It is suitable for use in endemic regions, routine vaccination programs, and emergency outbreak control.
Immunization Program
- Suitable for all breeds and ages of sheep and goats
- Can be used for routine vaccination and emergency immunization during outbreaks
Dosage & Administration
- Route: Intradermal injection
- Injection Site: Inner side of tail base or inner thigh
- Sheep & Goats (all sizes): 0.5 mL per head
Preparation:
- Reconstitute with sterile normal saline or water for injection to 0.5 mL per dose

- Live attenuated goat pox virus (Strain CVCC AV41): ≥10³.5 TCID50 per dose

Precautions

- Dispose of used vials, equipment, and residual vaccine according to biosafety protocols
